School of Social Work professor Dr. Ben Lough’s presentation provides a brief overview of common volunteer activities occurring during the pandemic (including virtual volunteering) and the impact of current volunteer shortages on nonprofits. The webinar draws on prior field research to illustrate how the distinctive attributes of volunteering can help or hinder community resilience. Integrating learning from past epidemics, it explores why preparations and investments are needed in advance of a global pandemic for volunteers to respond swiftly and effectively during a crisis.
