He starts his history prior to its industrialization, and talks about the factors leading up to the industrial development of Brazil. His history continues through the period of monarchy, the growth of immigration, World War I, and the Getulio Vargas era. He also talks about some of the problems of industrialization- including an urban migration, income disparity, and reliance on import substitution.
